Juniper Elementary School Addition

A treasured neighborhood school and one of the oldest facilities in Bend-La Pine Schools, updating the Juniper Elementary presented complex challenges to the BBT design team. Located on the flanks of an extinct volcano, the campus-type school rests on a sloped site with large lava boulders and dense namesake juniper trees. With these challenges in mind, BBT designed a new gymnasium sited to allow for improved student circulation and future additions to the campus. Extensive site and security renovations included new accessible ramps and updating the main campus entry. New boilers were installed for the campus-wide steam mechanical system and snowmelt system on all pedestrian pathways.
